Far Infrared Saunas by Manufacturer

Farinfrared Saunas operate between 110° to 140° with a couple going up to 170°.

The deeper farinfrared heat penetrates as much as 1.5" below the skin so your body produces up to three times more perspiration than in a conventional sauna.  Most people will use an infrared sauna for 15 to 40 minutes depending on temperature and heat tolerance.

Full Spectrum vs Farinfrared
We offer Infrared Saunas or Full Spectrum Saunas that also include Near Infrared.  Near Infrared waves are primarily for the collagen in the skin and operate in the Nanometer range.  A Near infrared sauna does not get as hot as a Farinfrared sauna and near infrared does not make you sweat more.  Near infrared is an added benefit to a Farinfrared sauna and there are several manufacturers that offer Full Spectrum including Near infrared.

Therasauna heaters included Near, Mid and Farinfrared in the same heater.  Therasauna has a patented all ceramic heater that stays on for the entire sauna session and powers down to 50% when desired temperature is reached and is the most energy efficient sauna.  Their 4 person saunas only require 120v and 20 amp while Full Spectrum saunas using the Glass Halogen heaters for 4 person saunas require 240v and use more electricity.

Clearlight has a carbon/ceramic heater and also offers the option for a Full Spectrum True Wave II glass halogen red light heater that produces Near, Mid and Farinfrared.  The True wave II heater is a 500 watt heater that requires 30 times the power of the carbon/ceramic heaters.  Clearlight Full spectrum heaters stay on during the entire sauna session.

Vital Sauna has carbon heaters and also offers a Full Spectrum Glass  Halogen light heater that is similar to Clearlights True Wave II Glass Halogen heater but only uses 300 watts per heater because they have a reflector system to help increase the waves of the heater.  Vital Saunas full spectrum heaters have the option of having the Full Spectrum heaters both on or off or just one heater on.

Sunlighten also offers Full Spectrum saunas and use 3 different types of heaters one Mid Infrared, one for Far Infrared and they use LED lights to product Near Infrared however they only have the near infrared leds are located in the back and side of the sauna.  LED Near infrared is recommend to have your skin right up against the LED lights.

The Therasage Tent sauna offers a Full Spectrum Heater on all 4 sides along with Tourmaline discs that produce negative ions.  This sauna will go up to 170 degrees while the other full spectrum saunas go up to just 140 degrees.

The Jade Sauna dome sauna is a high end Full Spectrum sauna mostly used in spas and wellness centers.  You lay on a farinfrared Jade Mat and there are 8 Near Infrared heaters that are on the top of the sauna for you front side.  This is a super unique sauna that sells for over $15,000 because of the amazing results.  You can do longer sessions because your head sticks out and is not heated.

  • Therasauna leads the way for the most efficient ceramic heaters and the cleanest non toxic aspen wood.  Therasauna is low emf and has the optimal micron range for absorption in the body.  The Theramitter Heaters are patented and FDA Cleared and unique.  96% efficient and FULL Spectrum so you get the near, mid and farinfrared.  Therasauna is also the only sauna with the mps control unit so you can set the temperature of the heaters individually.  Heater control is great when you have multiple people using the sauna at the same time that may prefer a different temperature.  Therasauna is made in the USA and saunas are made to order.  Bluetooth/MP3 players are available along with chromotherapy lighting as add ons.  Many saunas use glue and some glues are labeled non toxic but they are not chemical free. Therasauna screws together their saunas and do not use any glue.

  • Therasauna, high-glass content, solid-ceramic TheraMitters are very different from the traditional ceramic heaters in the industry because they are unique, patented heating unit that is made of solid ceramic, and is distinct from tubular ceramic heaters that consist of wire and metal thinly coated with ceramic. Tubular ceramic heaters are similar to the process of coating metal jewelry with silver to give the impression of solid sterling silver, but after time the underlying metal starts to show after the silver plating wears off. TheraSauna is the only major manufacturer in the United States offering true solid ceramic TheraMitters, with no metal rods.

TheraMitter are solid ceramic and still remain more efficient than carbon fiber and safer to use in a sauna. TheraMitters are 96% efficient and have a life-time warranty.

Vital Saunas are a more affordable carbon heater sauna and come in Hemlock or Cedar and have free shipping and a lifetime warranty.

Near infrared is known for increasing collagen levels for a smoother, younger looking skin. The Near Infrared Heaters are top-of-the-line full spectrum Vital Rays glass heaters. You can even turn the glass heaters on and off during your therapy sessions.  The Near Infrared Heaters are in the front of the sauna next to the door.

Clearlight Saunas have a no emf carbon/low emf ceramic heater combination called True Wave II Heaters and also offer the Near Infrared Red Light Heater for Full Spectrum.  The Clearlight saunas come in Nordic Spruce or Cedar and the Sanctuary Sauna line includes the Near Infrared Red Light Heaters.  Clearlight is a more affordable sauna that has efficient heaters that have a lifetime warranty.  Clearlight sells their heaters and wood for custom made saunas and can help you with your own design for optimal efficiency.

Clearlight uses True Wave II heaters are the only combination Carbon and Ceramic far infrared heater. These heater are truly the best of both worlds. The carbon allow the True Wave II heaters to produce long wave far infrared heat. The long infrared wave will penetrate deeper into your body and give you the benefits you are looking for. The patented organic Ceramic compound that we add to the carbon give the heaters a very high infrared output. Traditional carbon heaters are weak, but not our True Wave II heaters. They produce exceptional quality infrared and a lot of it. Please see the comparison test we performed below.

The heaters are positioned so the infrared heat is concentrated on your body. Since infrared heat travels in a straight line, any heater that goes up over your head is only heating the air. By using our high output heaters, we can concentrate the heat exclusively on your body so you get the most benefit. This means better performance well within the optimal wave range of 7 to 14 microns with a good portion of wavelengths at 9.4--which is the frequency at which the human body absorbs infrared heat.

infrared heater comparison

Over the last 5 years there has been a big debate as to whether Carbon heaters or Ceramic heaters are "better". Carbon heaters produce high quality, long wave infrared heat, but the problem is they do not produce a lot of infrared heat - in our testing they seemed weak. Ceramic heaters are powerful and emit a lot of infrared heat, but the wavelength tended to be shorter, thus less therapeutic.

Our R&D department at Clearlight Infrared has ended that debate by introducing the ONLY combination Carbon/Ceramic far infrared heater.

Clearlight Infrared True Wave II far infrared heaters combine Carbon and Ceramic to produce healing infrared heat that is unmatched. Our heaters are comprised of micro-thin carbon fibers (1/1000th the thickness of a human hair) combined with our patented ceramic compound. We start with a high quality organic carbon fiber sheet. We then add our high output (high emissivity) ceramic compound to the heater allowing out heaters to produce long wave infrared heat with a very high infrared output. They are fantastic infrared heaters!

The carbon in our heaters allows the heater to produce long wave far infrared heat. This long wave infrared heat penetrates deeper into your body and the infrared heat is more readily absorbed. The ceramic in our heaters gives the heaters a very high infrared output when compared to traditional carbon heaters so we can concentrate the heat directly on your body. We also developed the first and only virtually no-EMF combination carbon/ceramic heaters. This patent pending process allows us to cancel out virtually all of the EMF (electromagnetic fields).

Using a Tri-Field EMF meter and measuring directly on top of our True Wave II heaters, our heaters have an average EMF output of about 2.5mg. Compare that to over 100 mg for most of our competitors carbon based heaters. In addition, when we use the Tri-Field meter and measure where you sit in the sauna, there is virtually no EMF.

Why Clearlight Infrared True Wave II™ far infrared heaters are better for you?

The larger size of our True Wave II™ infrared sauna heaters mean more surface area, resulting in lower surface temperature. The result of this low temperature is that our heaters produce more FAR or LONG wave infrared heat which is more therapeutic for your body. This means better performance within the optimal wavelength range of 7 to 10 microns with a large portion of wavelengths at 9.4 microns. The human body absorbs more infrared at the 9.4 micron range than any other range.

With the high far infrared output (emissivity) of our heaters, you not only get the highest quality infrared heat, but you get a lot of it, and right where you want it - your body core. We position our heaters so that they surround your body concentrating the heat on your body core.

The key to infrared therapy is heating your body directly so you want heat on the front of your body and on the back of your body. Every Clearlight Infrared model has heaters on the front wall, back wall, side walls and underneath the bench. Most companies using carbon heater saunas don't have heaters on the front walls. That is a big mistake. Without heating the front of your body you will not raise your core body temperature as effectively and you will not sweat and detox as effectively.

Most of our competitors also run their heaters very high up on the wall way over your head. They do this because their heaters have a low infrared heat output and they must add more heater to sufficiently heat the cabin. With the heaters extended up to the ceiling, the heater is just heating the cabin, not your body. That also extends the heaters into the head region, a real no-no in infrared therapy. Because of the high output of our Clearlight Infrared True Wave II heaters, we do not have to extend them up into the head region.

As you can see from the infrared photo on the left, our True Wave II heaters heat your body very evenly. The total coverage of your body core is the key to effective infrared therapy.

No-EMF Infrared Heaters
Using our patent-pending infrared heater technology, our True Wave II heaters are the only carbon based infrared heaters with virtually No-EMF. Our exclusive manufacturing process allows us to cancel out EMF to levels that are virtually undetectable.

Using a ultra-sensitive EMF testing equipment, all of our heaters are tested to ensure safe levels of EMF. Electro Magnetic Fields are measured in milligauss (mG). It is generally accepted that exposure to EMF should not exceed 3 milligauss. The EPA (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency) has proposed a safety standard of 3 mG. Sweden has also set a recommended safety limit of 3 mG. When EMF levels are measured inside the Clearlight Infrared Sauna all around your seated position, EMF levels are virtually undetectable.

 Concave Ceramic TheraMitter™ - Therasauna

Radiant Efficiency of Ceramic TheraMitter™: 96 %
Infrared Micron Range: 6.0 – 14.0

small image of a TheraSauna TheraMitter

Ceramic is made from natural earth elements. TheraMitter™ heaters have the highest glass content in the industry which provides uninhibited transmission and output of far infrared. Concave Ceramic TheraMitter™ heaters are able to spread infrared heat waves in a 180º pattern, effectively covering every square inch inside the sauna. Due to the quality of the reflector, all energy is given direction toward the user to improve the delivery of far infrared. The absorbed heat characteristics of a ceramic TheraMitter™ produce an energy of feeling that creates well being and health due to the range of temperatures across the ribbed ceramic face. The EMF (Electromagnetic Field) is extremely low in the Ceramic TheraMitter™ due to the fact that the wire changes direction several times over the face of the heater, thus reducing the output of EMF. The watt density of the TheraMitter™ is ideal; providing the user with the highest output of far infrared at the most beneficial micron range for the human body.

The patented TheraSauna® TheraMitter™ emits infrared in wavelengths of 6 to 14 microns, with the greatest output at 9.4 microns. These wavelengths are similar to those naturally emitted by the human body, so your body absorbs more beneficial far infrared in a shorter treatment time natural process rids your body of harmful toxins.

This “Patented Control System” automatically maintains a constant output of far infrared heat at the 9.4 micron level. Other saunas turn off after reaching their set convection air temperature, losing air temperature and creating an ineffective range of infrared. The TheraSauna® Stable Heat™ System does not turn off, but powers down and sends a trickle charge of electricity to maintain the surface temperature of the TheraMitter™ heaters, thus providing a continuous and effective 9.4 micron range of far infrared to the user.

Incoloy Rod Heaters

Radiant Efficiency: 50%
Infrared Micron Range: 3.0 – 6.0

Cylinder-type steel heaters are used by a number of different sauna companies. Tubular elements consist of a helical resistant wire inside a metal tube filled with magnesium oxide as an insulator and heat conductor. They have a radiant efficiency of 50% and emit an infrared wavelength range of 3.0 to 6.0 microns. Incoloy rod heaters have a short life span due to the compaction of the magnesium oxide which tends to short out the helical wire. They also have an extremely high watt density which produces a very high surface temperature of the rod, which in turn produces a lower ineffective range of infrared. The EMF of incoloy rod heaters is extremely high due to a non-cancelling wire and non-insulating metal surface.

Tubular Ceramic Heaters

 Radiant Efficiency: 50%
Infrared Micron Range: 2.5 – 6.0

Tubular ceramic heaters consist of a helical resistant wire housed in vitreous silica sand enclosed in a metal tube. They have a radiant efficiency of 50% and emit an infrared wavelength range of 2.5 to 6.0 microns. Tubular ceramic heaters have a short life span due to the compaction of the silica sand which tends to short out the helical wire. They also have an extremely high watt density which produces a very high surface temperature of the rod, which in turn produces a lower ineffective range of infrared. The EMF of tubular ceramic heaters is extremely high due to a non-cancelling wire and non-insulating metal surface.

Carbon Heaters - Vital Sauna

Radiant Efficiency: 55% – varies
Infrared Micron Range: 4.0 – 20.0

These heaters sandwich a carbon screen between two fiberglass epoxy resin casings. They operate at a very low surface temperature of 130º F and have a very low radiant efficiency. This type of heating element is used in automotive seat heaters. Carbon heaters tend to absorb odor, then re-emit the offensive odor back into the sauna. The carbon material has a very low watt density which makes it very difficult to completely heat the sauna to an adequate temperature. It also has an extremely high EMF which produces an unsafe environment.

Aluminum Heaters

Radiant Efficiency: 56%
Infrared Micron Range: 4.0 – 6.0

These heaters are typically made by encasing incoloy heater rods inside aluminum sheets, which are then sprayed with a thin ceramic coating. This allows companies to make their heaters larger and give the impression they are ceramic. Aluminum heaters have a higher watt density which produces an ineffective micron range of infrared. Heat is produced from the back of the heater as well as the front which results in 50% of its heat energy wasted. These heaters also have a very high EMF which produces an unsafe environment.

  1. Health Mate Saunas are made with Tecoloy Heaters and have a lifetime warranty.  The Tecoloy heaters are UL-Recoginzed infrared heater that distributes heat evenly making it is a very effective heater and ensures consistent infrared wavelength.  It minimizes any heat loss through the back of the heater and has an average temperature of 401.775 with a face temperature of 480.89.  To emit far infrared heat the heater face temperature should be below 480 degrees.  These heaters have a maximum wavelength of 6.34 microns.  These are not full spectrum heaters that have the near infrared heat that produces the 9.4 micron wavelengths.  The temperature for 9.4 microns is around 100 degrees and not sufficient to really sweat like you would at a higher temperature.  Here is a picture of the even heat technology.  Health mate goes up to 170 degrees so can stay on longer.
