The deeper farinfrared heat penetrates as much as 1.5" below the skin so your body produces up to three times more perspiration than in a conventional sauna. Most people will use an infrared sauna for 15 to 40 minutes depending on temperature and heat tolerance.
Full Spectrum vs Farinfrared
We offer Infrared Saunas or Full Spectrum Saunas that also include Near Infrared. Near Infrared waves are primarily for the collagen in the skin and operate in the Nanometer range. A Near infrared sauna does not get as hot as a Farinfrared sauna and near infrared does not make you sweat more. Near infrared is an added benefit to a Farinfrared sauna and there are several manufacturers that offer Full Spectrum including Near infrared.
Therasauna heaters included Near, Mid and Farinfrared in the same heater. Therasauna has a patented all ceramic heater that stays on for the entire sauna session and powers down to 50% when desired temperature is reached and is the most energy efficient sauna. Their 4 person saunas only require 120v and 20 amp while Full Spectrum saunas using the Glass Halogen heaters for 4 person saunas require 240v and use more electricity.
Clearlight has a carbon/ceramic heater and also offers the option for a Full Spectrum True Wave II glass halogen red light heater that produces Near, Mid and Farinfrared. Our heaters are comprised of micro-thin carbon fibers (1/1000th the thickness of a human hair) combined with our patented ceramic compound. We start with a high quality organic carbon fiber sheet. Tubular elements consist of a helical resistant wire inside a metal tube filled with magnesium oxide as an insulator and heat conductor. They have a radiant efficiency of 50% and emit an infrared wavelength range of 3.0 to 6.0 microns. Incoloy rod heaters have a short life span due to the compaction of the magnesium oxide which tends to short out the helical wire. They also have an extremely high watt density which produces a very high surface temperature of the rod, which in turn produces a lower ineffective range of infrared. The EMF of incoloy rod heaters is extremely high due to a non-cancelling wire and non-insulating metal surface.

Tubular ceramic heaters consist of a helical resistant wire housed in vitreous silica sand enclosed in a metal tube. They have a radiant efficiency of 50% and emit an infrared wavelength range of 2.5 to 6.0 microns. Tubular ceramic heaters have a short life span due to the compaction of the silica sand which tends to short out the helical wire. They also have an extremely high watt density which produces a very high surface temperature of the rod, which in turn produces a lower ineffective range of infrared. The EMF of tubular ceramic heaters is extremely high due to a non-cancelling wire and non-insulating metal surface.

These heaters sandwich a carbon screen between two fiberglass epoxy resin casings. They operate at a very low surface temperature of 130º F and have a very low radiant efficiency. This type of heating element is used in automotive seat heaters. Carbon heaters tend to absorb odor, then re-emit the offensive odor back into the sauna. The carbon material has a very low watt density which makes it very difficult to completely heat the sauna to an adequate temperature. It also has an extremely high EMF which produces an unsafe environment.

These heaters are typically made by encasing incoloy heater rods inside aluminum sheets, which are then sprayed with a thin ceramic coating. This allows companies to make their heaters larger and give the impression they are ceramic. Aluminum heaters have a higher watt density which produces an ineffective micron range of infrared. Heat is produced from the back of the heater as well as the front which results in 50% of its heat energy wasted. These heaters also have a very high EMF which produces an unsafe environment.

The Tecoloy heaters are UL-Recoginzed infrared heater that distributes heat evenly making it is a very effective heater and ensures consistent infrared wavelength. It minimizes any heat loss through the back of the heater and has an average temperature of 401.775 with a face temperature of 480.89. To emit far infrared heat the heater face temperature should be below 480 degrees. These heaters have a maximum wavelength of 6.34 microns. These are not full spectrum heaters that have the near infrared heat that produces the 9.4 micron wavelengths. The temperature for 9.4 microns is around 100 degrees and not sufficient to really sweat like you would at a higher temperature. Here is a picture of the even heat technology.
